Seeking Assurance for Transfer

At Ghana Education Service (GES), “seeking assurance” refers to the process where a teacher obtains an assurance letter from a district or region they want to be transferred to.

The letter confirms that there is a vacancy and the district is willing to accept the teacher before the transfer is processed.

Understand What an Assurance Letter Is

An assurance letter is an official document issued by a district or regional education office confirming that:

There is a vacancy for a teacher in that district/region.
The district is willing to accept the teacher if the transfer is approved.
The teacher can now apply for release from their current district.

It is usually the first and most important step in the GES transfer or reposting process.

Eligibility for Transfer

Phase 1

Check Eligibility Before Applying

Before seeking assurance, teachers must meet the following criteria:

  • Serve at least 3 years at their current station (common practice in GES).
  • Have good conduct and performance records.
  • Have no disciplinary issues.
  • Have supporting reasons for transfer (marriage, health, family, etc.).

Phase 2

Identify the Preferred District or Region

Before starting the online process, the teacher must:

  • Decide the region/district they want to transfer to.
  • Confirm there may be vacancies in that district.
  • Contact the Metro/Municipal/District Education Office (MMDE) of the preferred district.

The assurance must come from the district where the teacher wants to move.
