TEACHING STAFF
The GES Promotion Exercise is an internal process for teaching staff to be elevated to higher ranks based on qualification, years of service, performance, and success in promotion examinations and interviews.

Phase 01
Eligibility Requirements
1. Minimum Years of Service:
An officer must have served a required number of years in their current rank before qualifying for promotion.
- Superintendent I → Superintendent II
- Principal Superintendent → Assistant Director II
- Assistant Director II → Assistant Director I
2. Educational Qualification:
- Must meet the academic qualification required for the next rank.
- Higher qualifications (e.g., Bachelor's or Master's degree) may be required for certain promotions.
3. Recommendation:
Must be recommended by: Headteacher, District Director of Education, or Immediate supervisor.
4. Registration:
Eligible officers must officially apply and register for the promotion examination when it is announced by GES on GEDP website.
Phase 02
PROCESS OF PROMOTION EXERCISE
01 Announcement of Promotion
GES publishes an official circular announcing:
- Eligible ranks
- Qualification criteria
- Application procedures
- Deadline
- Examination date
The circular is distributed through district and regional education offices.
02 Application Submission
Eligible staff must:
- Complete promotion forms on GEDP Promotion Portal.

Attach required documents such as:

- ○ Last promotion letter
- Submit through their head of institution to the District Education Office.
Professional Advancement
Advancement is based on qualification and merit.
03 Screening of Applications
District and Regional offices verify:
- Years of service
- Qualification
- Rank status
- Performance record
Qualified applicants are shortlisted for examination.
04 Promotion Examination
Candidates write a promotion examination which may cover:
- Educational policies
- School administration
- Leadership and supervision
- Professional Knowledge
Phase 03
Release of Results

GES releases results after marking and vetting.
Successful candidates receive:
- Promotion letters
- New rank placement
- Effective date of promotion
Important Notes:
- Promotion is competitive and merit-based.
- Meeting minimum years of service does not guarantee automatic promotion.
- Examination malpractice or falsification of documents leads to disqualification.
- Officers must stay updated with GES policies and reforms.
