Confirm Eligibility for Transfer
Before applying, a teacher must ensure they meet the basic GES transfer conditions:
Basic Conditions:
- Must have served at least 3 years at the current post (normally required).
- Must have no pending disciplinary issues.
- Must have proper documentation supporting the reason for transfer.
Common Acceptable Reasons:
- Marriage
- Health condition
- Family responsibilities
- Further education
- Security concerns
- Spouse relocation
Phase 2
Apply Online on the Transfer Portal
Log into GEDP and navigate to the Transfer Portal to process your transfer. The following information is required:
Information Required:
- Staff ID
- Current school
- Current district/region
- Preferred district/region
- Reason for transfer
- Supporting documents
Step 2
Application Review
The request moves through several levels of review. Each level may recommend approval or rejection.
Headteacher
Initial review and recommendation at the school level.
District Education Office
District-level review of the transfer application.
Regional Directorate
Regional-level assessment and recommendation.
GES Headquarters
Final authority for all transfer decisions.
Step 3
Final Decision
GES makes the final decision based on:
- Teacher demand in both areas
- Validity of the reason for transfer
- Availability of vacancies
Step 4
Issuance of Transfer Letter
If approved, the teacher receives a formal transfer letter indicating:
- New district or region
- Reporting date
- Posting instructions
Final Steps
Release and Assumption of Duty
Once approval is granted, the following steps must be completed:
Current district issues a release letter.
Teacher reports to new district education office.
Teacher receives posting to a school.
Teacher signs assumption of duty form.
Types of Transfers in GES
The system allows different types of transfers based on the teacher's circumstances and needs.
Inter-District Transfer
Movement from one district to another within the same region.
Inter-Regional Transfer
Movement from one region of Ghana to another region.
Special Transfer
Transfers based on exceptional circumstances:
- Medical conditions
- Security concerns
- Marriage or family relocation
Important Notes
for Teachers:
- Transfers are usually processed during official transfer windows announced by GES.
- Some transfers (e.g., medical or security cases) may be treated as emergency transfers.
- Teachers must continue teaching until officially released.
